The S88 is designed to be used with all software- and hardware-based MIDI instruments and features expanded integration with KOMPLETE 9, KOMPLETE 10, KOMPLETE 11, and KOMPLETE 12 such as automatic parameter mapping.
Additionally, there are DAW transport controls for direct access to DAW transport functions for Logic Pro X, Ableton Live, GarageBand, Cubase, and Nuendo. The keybed of the keyboard is made by Fatar and offers fully wieghted, hammer-action keys.
Other notable upgrades include a four-directional push encoder, eight touch-sensitive knobs, ergonomic pitch and mod controls, an assignable touch-sensitive smart strip, and dedicated MASCHINE controls with access to Scenes, Patterns, and Tracks. If you are unwilling to do velocity editing, then this is probably not for you. It's just that I actually liked the old one. I'm a real fan of the new gen of Komplete Kontrol and the increased integration with Cubase. When I unpacked mine and started to play, my heart sank.īut I'm glad I bought it. It just provides more resistance, a dull pushback. It bears no resemblance to any piano or any quality weighted keyboard controller I have ever played. I don't know if there is any difference between the action of the keys in the S88 and the S88 mkII, but I don't find the keys noisy or cheap. My S49 found that balance for me pretty well. For that purpose, I'm personally looking for a balance between a piano and an organ, with as much velocity sensitivity as possible. My opinion: for people who play a variety of virtual instruments, the S88 mkII keyboards is a complete fail over a 1st gen S49 keyboard.
